Clearwater Beach - Clearwater, Florida
Located along the Gulf of Mexico, Clearwater Beach features dazzling white sand and beautiful blue water. This popular spot boasts 2.5 miles of beach and has something for everyone. You can relax and sunbathe, or if adventure is calling you, there are boat rides, fishing, and even parasailing. When the sun starts to sink in the evening, nearby Pier 60 offers a great view of a stunning sunset. The pier is also great for simply strolling around and enjoying the various vendors that pop up each evening.
Cannon Beach - Cannon Beach, Oregon
While the word “beach” may conjure up images of palm trees and bright sunshine, you may need to pack a windbreaker for this one. But even if you visit this beach on a cloudy day, the moody sky is part of its charm. Located on the Oregon coast, Cannon Beach isn’t a tropical paradise, but it’s still among the best beaches in the U.S. You can view the famous Haystack Rock, which is an incredible 235 foot sea stack. And it’s a great place to view tidepools, where you can spot some bright sea stars and all kinds of colorful marine life. Tidepool viewing depends on the tide, so make sure to check the tide charts.
Wai’anapanapa Black Sand Beach - Maui, Hawaii
Most beaches have lighter beige sand, but sand comes in all colors. Hawaii is known for its abundances of beaches, and they range in color from white to black and even to green. Wai’anapanapa Black Sand Beach has unique black sand, which was created by lava flow many hundreds of years ago. And as if seeing black sand glistening under the summer sun isn’t awe-inspiring enough, the park also has even more natural beauty. There are also blowholes, lava tubes, sea stacks, natural stone arches, and even caves.
Coronado Beach - San Diego, California
One of Southern California’s most popular beaches, this bustling beach has a Mediterranean climate that makes it a great year round destination. The famous Hotel del Coronado, which is rich in history, sits elegantly in the background. The beaches here literally sparkle due to the mineral mica in the golden sand. This family-friendly spot is ideal for lounging and soaking up the sun’s rays. Others may opt for paddle boarding, boogie boarding, or surfing. There’s even a spot for dogs to run freely on Dog Run Beach. As you can see, there are plenty of reasons it holds a spot as one of the best beaches in the U.S.
Beachwalker Park - Kiawah Island, South Carolina
Head to Beachwalker Park to enjoy some soft sand beneath your feet. This beach spans 11 miles and is known for small crowds. It’s also great for families and has everything you need for a day at the beach, including restrooms, outdoor showers, and a snack bar. It also has a boardwalk that winds through all kinds of bright green foliage.
Coast Guard Beach - Cape Cod, Massachusetts
There’s no parking at this beach, but don’t let that keep you from visiting. The main parking area for the beach is a short distance away, but there’s a shuttle to pick up passengers. This picturesque place has rolling sand dunes that are perfect for strolling. And during certain seasons, seals can be spotted!
Cumberland Island - Cumberland Island, Georgia
Beaches are great for spotting marine life, but some have animals roaming on the land as well. This beach stands out thanks to the feral horses that freely roam the area. It’s also home to one of the most important loggerhead sea turtle nesting areas in the state. Another highlight is the wide variety of shells, making it an ideal place to scavenge the sand for some shells. You can also enjoy bird watching, fishing, or boating. When the sun sets, some opt for some stargazing.
